Nilmini De Silva

Nilmini De Silva is a Sri Lankan-born Australian photographer based in Sydney whose work is grounded in storytelling and a deep curiosity about the world around her. A Grand Master of the Australian Photographic Society and an internationally awarded photographer, she discovered photography while volunteering on a conservation project in South Africa in 2010—an experience that ignited her love of visual storytelling and shaped her commitment to narratives about people, place, and change.

Her practice spans aerial, landscape, documentary, portrait, and nature photography, though aerial abstracts have become her signature style. Drawing on her background as a water engineer, many of her images explore the movement of water through the landscape. Inspired by the colours and storytelling traditions of Aboriginal art, her aerial work reveals patterns in the land that speak to resilience, ecology, and our connection to place.
